We here at the Tasteful Pantry are SO excited to welcome on board Lea Basch, MS, RD. As a registered dietitian, Lea will not only be helping us to select the delicious and nutritious snacks for our Treat Boxes and Shop, but will also be writing some very interesting and informative blogposts here on the blog about nutrition and special diets. She will also be running a column on the Tasteful Pantry main site (www.tastefulpantry.com) that will answer YOUR specific nutrition questions. Have you had a burning question about how to eat in a healthy way, or how to follow a ‘free-from’ diet? Now is your chance to get a personal response to your question. Just write in to Lea at DearLea@tastefulpantry.com, and get your questions answered here!
Lea is a registered dietitian and has been in the nutrition industry for over 30 years, most of which she spent at Longmont United Hospital in Boulder, Colorado, where she was one of the founders of the facility’s nutrition program. Longmont’s Planetree philosophy of caring for the body, mind and spirit of patients is very much in line with Lea’s interest in both traditional and alternative therapies for treating chronic illnesses.
Gluten-intolerant herself, Lea now focuses much of her time on the latest research and issues relating to gluten-free diets and other food intolerances. She also has built up an expertise in working with diabetes and is a certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association. Lea’s lifelong passion has been combining the science of nutrition with the heart that it takes to change lifelong habits.
Lea lives for part of the year in Boulder, Colorado and part of it in sunny Los Angeles, two of the most nutritionally progressive and health-oriented cities in the US! Lea received her BS and MS in Nutrition and Dietetics at Florida International University and BA in Education at University of Florida. Her other interests include meditation, yoga and cooking.
