Why We Love It: Ghee is an ancient Ayurvedic fat used for both food and medicine to nourish the body, lower cholesterol, boost the immune system and cleanse the body of toxins. This specific brand does not add any salt, preservatives, dyes, colors or anything else. The ghee is only made with milk obtained spring through fall (that’s when the cows are on the pasture eating fresh, green grass). Everything is made in small batches, and they are Certified Organic. It’s also extremely versatile! Other than cooking with ghee, we love to blend it with hot water, coconut milk, cinnamon, honey and reishi powder for a steamy, nourishing and healing tonic.

Meet the Makers: In 1889, Lala Khoobram Agarwal launched a pure ghee business in Northern India. After 5 generations and 125 years, the company, now known as Pure Indian Foods, is based in New Jersey and is still growing! Each jar of ghee is made fresh in small batches in stainless steel equipment. They also donate 1% of all annual sales to support non-profit organizations focused on sustainability.

Fun Fact: The company lives by the quote, “A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work – he is the purpose of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to serve him.” And the fun part of that quote? It is attributed to Mahatma Gandhi!
