Good with: You favorite type of milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Other Flavors: Rice Twice, Corn Flakes, Raisin Bran
Why We Love It: If you like Rice Crispies, there’s no reason you shouldn’t switch over to Erewhon’s Crispy Brown Rice cereal. It tastes just like Rice Crispies, but it’s made with brown rice rather than white rice, and is certified organic, non-GMO and gluten-free. In short, it’s a healthier version of the childhood perennial, but with the same light texture and toasted flavor that Rice Crispies have. Yes, this healthier version is more expensive, but it may just be worth it to feed yourself and your family a product that has more fiber, vitamins and minerals, not to mention a lower glycemic index and is made with 100% natural ingredients.
Meet the Makers: Erewhon was one of the founding companies of the natural food movement in the 60’s. Having gotten their start as a small macrobiotic and natural foods store in Boston, the Erewhon brand has evolved into a trusted purveyor of all-natural 100% whole grain organic cereals and graham crackers. Erewhon today operates under the umbrella of Attunefoods, which makes a variety of other healthy granolas, cereals, and snacks. The retail store arm of the original Erewhon is now separate and has also continued to grow under the separate ownership of the Antoci family in Los Angeles. www.erewhonorganic.com
Fun Fact: Erewhon (pronounced AIR-wahn) derived its company name from a famous nineteenth century novel by Samuel Butler. In the novel, “Erewhon” (made by rearranging the letters of the word “nowhere”) was a utopia in which it was a crime to be sick, and everyone was responsible for his or her own health.
