Why We Love It: This is a veggie-based non-dairy milk that doesn’t contain nuts, legumes or grains like many other non-dairy milks do, making it allergy-friendly and completely plant-based. The main ingredients in this milk are pea protein, tapioca starch and potato starch. It is non-GMO and does not contain carrageenan gum, which is an ingredient in basically every other type of non-dairy milk and has been linked to chronic inflammation. However it does contain gellan gum and xantham gum, which causes digestive issues in some people. If you have problems with the common forms of non-dairy milk like almond or soy milk, then Veggemo may be a good option for you to try out. The consistency is very similar to regular milk and the flavor is mild, although there is just the slightest bitter vegetabl-y aftertaste in the unsweetened variety that we tried, but nothing that wouldn’t get covered up by the cereal, coffee or food that you’re pairing it with.

Meet the Makers: Based in Richmond, British Columbia (yup, Canada!), Veggemo is owned by Global Gardens Group, a Canadian start-up dedicated to non-dairy food and beverage products. Veggemo debuted in Canada in Oct 2015 and in the US at Expowest this past March, so it’s brand new! www.veggemo.com

Fun Fact: Most pea suppliers in North America actually get their peas from China, where they are processed, but Veggemo was able to find a company in Belgium that was able to meet their specs without outsourcing to China.
