Good with: Toast with peanut butter

Other Flavors: Honey Apple salsa.

Why We Love It: Step aside PB&J, we’ve discovered PB&AB. This apple butter tastes like a apple sauce, but sweeter and with more spice, perfect for the festive season. The consistency is pretty thin so you could also mix it in to a hot drink like tea or a hot toddy to add a little extra apple sweetness. Make no mistake, this is not a health food, but drizzle a little on top of a piece of toast with peanut butter smeared on it, and you’ve got yourself a perfect breakfast or snack. Quick note: Although there are no gluten ingredients in it, it does not have a gluten-free label on it, so may not be safe for people with celiac or severe allergies.

Meet the Makers: Based in the Cincinnati, OH, KYVAN was founded by NFL Pro Reggie Kelly and his wife Sheila as a way to share delicious soul food, based on Reggie’s family recipes, with the world. It all started when Reggie and Sheila held football camps for local kids in their hometown of Aberdeen. They invited fellow NFL stars & coaches to volunteer and make the events special for the kids. After the camps, Reggie’s family cooked for the volunteers and they raved about the flavor and goodness of the meals. This sparked Reggie’s imagination to create a soul food line that is now KYVAN Foods. In addition to honey apple butter and salsa, KYVAN also makes BBQ sauces, hot sauces, wing sauces and seasonings. www.kyvan82.com

Fun Fact: The name KYVAN comes from a combination of Reggie and Sheila’s kids names: Kyla and Kavan.
