These days, it may seem that you can get any produce at any time of the year—grapes from Chile in December, strawberries from Florida in February, tomatoes grown year-round in hot houses. Eating seasonally, though, can help you eat local foods, reduce your carbon footprint, save money and the biggest bonus of all—fresh food is more nutritious and tastes better! Produce starts to lose nutrients and flavor after picking so the sooner it is eaten, the more nutritious and tasty, plus when produce travels long distances there is the chance of quality degradation and spoilage.
Let’s face it – the season to indulge really starts on Halloween, am I right? With all the chocolate, candy and baked goods popping up on what seems like every desk, plate and table, it can be hard to resist the temptation of pure sugar at this time of year. One way to help stave off indulging in all those sugar cravings is to keep your taste buds and tummy satisfied with delicious food and treats. Keep the good stuff nearby and just as accessible as the candy, and you can even schedule a fun family project to make a yummy but not refined-sugar-laden treat together!
The holidays are upon us and this year I’ve decided to buy gifts that will be used regularly, not just pretty things that will be taken out of the closet or off the shelf occasionally (I’ve been giving a lot of costume jewelry in recent years). It just so happens that I and many of the people in my life LOVE food and cooking. And most of them are very interested in eating fabulous food that is also healthy and nutritious. It’s funny how those two concepts go together for so many people, although that’s not to say we don’t also enjoy our indulgences!
Here are some gifts for those healthy foodies in your life that will be sure to be enjoyed almost as soon as they’re out of the box!
Just a quick post to say THANK YOU to all of our readers and sharers. We have loved sharing our knowledge, love and tastes with you and look forward to being a resource to help you expand your taste buds and lifestyle in a wholesome and delicious way.
We wish you and your loved ones a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with scrumptious and nourishing food, family and fun!

Knowing Foods was born from two brothers’ desire to inspire nutritional awareness and transparency in food labeling, all in the form of a delicious little square. That is, a two-layered delectable square made from all organic ingredients including cashews, coconut and sunflower seeds, topped with a crumbly layer of coconut and cashews. Have we got you drooling yet?
With all the options out there these days, it can be hard to not spend a fortune at the grocery store, especially if you’re trying to shop healthy and natural, and especially if you’re shopping with dietary restrictions. Most of us don’t think too much about what we’re throwing into our carts (how much could that bag of carrots really be?), but it does all add up. Rather than having to scrutinize each item’s price and calculate whether your getting a good deal, try these tips below.
